Stockton / Modesto Corneal Transplant Specialist – Dr. Ash
Also serving Manteca, Merced, Tracy
Corneal Transplant Surgery has been performed since 1906, over a hundred years ago. Since then minor changes have happened until the year 2000.
The traditional concept of a corneal transplant surgery is to remove the entire central portion of the cornea and replace it with a new clear cornea. This is performed by using a round trephine, much like a cookie cutter.
The modern era in corneal surgery allows us to perform the surgery with significantly greater accuracy. In the case of damaged inner lining of the cornea, the inner lining can be replaced with Descemet's Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK) Surgery.
In case of damage to the outer layers of the cornea, the lamellar corneal transplant can be done either via hand cut, automated blades, or IntraLase enabled laser surgery.
In cases of damage to the full thickness of the cornea then the traditional corneal transplant surgery involving removal of the entire cornea can be done either via the traditional corneal transplant surgery using the blade trephines or the laser surgery via IntraLase Enabled Keratoplasty.
In addition to performing corneal transplant surgery in Modesto / Stockton, Dr. Amin Ashrafzadeh specializes in refractive laser surgery and premium IOLs cataract surgery.
